Coffee has been the fuel driving this Benelux trip. Ma & I have been throwing down a LOT of coffee. She likes it black. I like it "verkeerd". See video below for some cafe chat...
We spent a long time at that cafe - still pic of Ma above. We really liked it. Great for watching all the boats and people going by. Beautiful lighting with the sun peeking through the leaves and bouncing off the water.
Earlier in the day, we had made a point of seeing the Ann Frank house. This was one of Ma's "must do's". I had never seen it myself, so was glad it was on her list. It was, as expected, very emotional. A bit overwhelming. The humanity and maturity that such a young girl showed in such unbelievable times is amazing.
Here is Ma in front of the house and under the chestnut tree that was a source of joy to Ann from her top floor hideaway.
After the Ann Frank house, we walked around the Jordaan - a neighborhood full of character and shopping and cafes and markets. Here are some pics from our stroll...
The next pic is a typical one of Ma on vacation. She likes to find special places mentioned in the guide books. Here we are sitting in the private garden (I guess it was ok to go in...) of a group of houses that were built in 1670 and used as a refuge for widows and abandoned women. It was quite serene.
This final pic here was our lunch. On a canal. Very nice. I just liked the colors of the pic. Plus, I am hungry again...
Rob - stayed at the Sofitel. Not the Sofitel Grand. It was ok. Good central location.

Just got caught up with your journeying. If I could live anywhere in Europe, I think I'd choose Amsterdam. Lovely city! Out of curiosity, which hotel are you staying in?
