Robbi is a potter in Windsor, Maine. I love her work. I have given it as a gift to friends around the world. Mugs, casserole dishes, tea pots. I like her eye for color and the very simple but expressive animals she makes. There is a warmth to her pieces that just makes me feel happy. I have several of her coffee mugs at home and they make me smile every time I sip from them. She is also just a lot of fun. More on Robbi here.
Dianne and I went to see Robbi today at Lithgow Library in Augusta.
Lithgow was my small town library when I was growing up. I actually spent a pretty fair amount of time there over the years and I still like going in whenever I am back home. I have traveled extensively around the world and seen many amazing buildings and wonderful libraries, but this tiny Lithgow Library is still one of the most beautiful in my eyes.
The
Lithgow Public Library was completed in 1896. It's two reading rooms have 38 beautiful stained glass windows
produced by Phipps, Slocum and Co. of Boston.
Six of the transom windows
portray historic sites of Augusta: Plymouth Trading House, Fort Western, Town
Meeting House, Kennebec Bridge, South Parish Meeting House, and Cony Female
Academy.
The remaining 32 windows depict the marks of printers who flourished
during the 15th-17th centuries. This is the window showing a printer from Antwerp in Belgium. A city very dear to me and that has become like my home away from home in Europe.
Lithgow is a real treasure for such a small Maine town.
Thanks for the info on Lithgow, I've been in those rooms lots of times but never paid attention.
