It's always interesting to return to the Catholic church where you grew up.
Even though I am not a regular catholic church-goer these days, I do still like popping into St. Andrews when I am home. I went this morning with Ma.
St. Andrews was built in 1968 to serve the east-side of Augusta. There already were two beautiful churches on the west-side. They are quite traditional stone churches. St. Andrews is a more modern church and a warmer one - with a sunlit altar and wood interior from floor to vaulted ceiling.
I was an altar boy at St. Andrews - usually serving a mass along with my older brother. Every Tuesday after school all the catholic kids were loaded on a bus and hauled to St. Andrews for CCD class. I had my first communion at St. Andrews and I was confirmed there. Both my brother and my sister were married there.
This morning it was nice to look around and see some familiar faces even after all these years.
The rest of Sunday was spent washing Murphy with my father, hanging out on Route 202 to see the masses of motorcycles that once a year ride with toys for kids, watching the New England Patriots win on opening day of the season, and dessert with Mike - the other half of my alter boy team.
Scrubbing up Murphy.
What a cute Alter Boy photo!
