I haven’t been to Richmond for 19 years. Jean has never been. It’s only a two hour drive south of Washington but we just haven't seemed to find a compelling reason to venture down there. But with an amazing Picasso exhibit making its only East Coast stop in Richmond at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, this weekend we packed the car and headed south.
Richmond is a small town but it has some beautiful architecture and green spaces. It also has some really good restaurants. Really good. Oh, and I was pretty impressed with the VMFA. It has a diverse collection ranging from pre-Columbian statues to art nouveau furniture to European masters to some pretty modern stuff. Lots to see.
I don’t think we will be moving to Richmond any time soon, but it was definitely worth the trip. I wouldn’t mind a return visit one day.
And here are my Five Favorite Fotos from today...
Nature...
At the VMFA this father and daughter were sitting alone in a gallery that was full of paintings of horses and this statue. They were both drawing. So adorable.
Beauty...
We had brunch at Can-Can, a brasserie in Carytown. These greeted us when we walked in the door. Stunning..
Fun...
Same brasserie. More food and drink. One of the nicest and most fun brunches we have had in a long time .
Spirit...
At the VMFA – this is Jina, one of the great teachers of the Jain faith.
Just liked it...
Late on Saturday night we saw this waiter cleaning up a table at a Helen’s.
