I have been feeling the need for a little bit of adventure and exploration, so I am starting a month-long trip here in Mexico. I am calling it my “walkabout”. I have always liked the concept of the aboriginal walkabouts in Australia. They seem very spiritual and inwardly focused to me.
Merriam Webster defines a walkabout as "a short period of wandering bush life engaged in as an occasional interruption of regular work". That works too. I don’t really have any real objectives and haven’t even finished planning the trip even though I am already here. I want to figure things out as I go along.
I am starting the trip here in San Miguel de Allende. Dane, a long-time friend of nearly 30 years, is joining me for the first week. He needed to escape this winter in Boston and I was happy to help. I will be here in SMA for 10 days. For most of the time I am staying in a beautiful home – as part of an exchange. It is perfect with lots of combined indoor and outdoor space. Very Spanish colonial. Apparently, SMA does up Santa Semana, which starts tomorrow, in a big way. I didn’t really know that when I planned to start here, but am happy it has worked out that way.
Dane and I got in late last night but still got out and exploring early this morning. We roamed the city for hours today and tonight. So far, I am in heaven here.
And here are my Five Favorite Fotos from the first day of my Walkabout...

Rows of manicured trees make up the Jardin here.

We walked up a big hill in the rain for this view. Stunning.

Me peeping at her while she peeps out her window.

Yesterday was the Friday of Sorrows. This is Mary under her title of Our Lady of Sorrows. And me in the mirror.
Just liked it...
So much color and texture.
