Today I hit the roads (38 miles) in Anne Arundel County with Vijay and Joseph. Apparently, speakers of "Baltimorese" pronounce it "Annie Runnel" or "And Arundel." I am not sure where it is - out New York Avenue somewhere.
This is me on a rest break at Highs Dairy Store. I think it was in Crownesville. Or something like that.
The County was named for Anne Arundell, the daughter of Thomas Arundell - the 1st Baron Arundell of Wardour, members of the ancient family of Arundells in Cornwall, England.
With just over 500K people, the county is the 5th largest of the 23 in Maryland. But I didn't see a lot of people - except when the catholic church let out on the main road in Davidsonville. Other than that, the County was very rural and very hilly. And very windy - at least today.
I thought this run-down barn was photogenic.
The county is on Chesapeake Bay and commuting distance to DC - so I think there has bee a lot of development lately. There seemed to be a mix of old, run down buildings and very expensive, new gated communties - usually plopped down in the middle of a field. Kinda strange.
The roads were gorgeous though. Here is Joseph on one.
I really shouldn't be taking snaps while riding a bike at 20 miles and hour. But I hate to miss a shot.
I wouldn't mind another ride in Annie Runnel sometime.
